Tuesday, January 05, 2010 – Garden City, KS – John W. Hartley, Jr., president and CEO of Dickinson Theatres, Inc. and Brian and Brent Mitchell, owners of Mitchell Theatres, announced today that an agreement has been reached regarding the sale of the Sequoyah  Theater in Garden City, Kansas to Mitchell Theatres. 

“We have always had a good working relationship with Dickinson and this transaction is beneficial for both of us,” stated Brian Mitchell.  Dickinson Theaters has been focusing their growth on larger markets and adding IMAX screens to existing locations.  They have also begun digital conversions in many of their theatres.  

The transaction is scheduled to close in April.  Mitchell Theatres’ future plans for the Sequoyah Theatres will be announced at that time.  “We would like to thank the City of Garden City for allowing us to be a part of their community for the last 13 years,” stated John Hartley.

     The Mitchell family business consists of farming, real estate and investments based in Elkhart, Kansas.  They currently own the Northridge Shopping Center and Northridge Cinema 8 in Guymon, Oklahoma and The Chisholm Trail Center and Chisholm Trail Cinema 8 in Newton, Kansas.  In the past month, they announced the acquisition of the Southgate Theater in Liberal, Kansas.  Remodel plans for Liberal include stadium seating, 3D Digital projection and screen additions that will begin in August.
