Overland Park , Kans. – Tuesday, August 29, 2006 – Dickinson Theatres, Inc., based in Overland Park , Kansas , announced today the building of Junction City , Kansas ' most luxurious movie theatre complex.
The new “Smokey Hill 8 Cinema” will be located in the Smokey Hill Bend Development encompassing 300 acres of entertainment, retail, government and commercial office space.
The architectural plans include rich colors, elegant furnishings in a fun and exciting environment. The spacing between seats will provide generous leg room. The all stadium seated auditoriums will feature large wall to wall screens. Also included will be digital projection which is the latest technology of theatre exhibition. The last performance of these digital showings are as pristine as the first, no scratches throughout all presentations. These will be some of the first screens with digital projection in Kansas and the Midwest .
“Our goal is to build a beautiful building that services our guests with quality presentations, above-exemplary service in a fun and comfortable environment,” says John Hartley, President and CEO of Dickinson Theatres. “We've taken input and concepts from our patrons from the last several years and applied them to the Smokey Hill 8. From the parking lot to the lobby and auditoriums, we plan on building a theatre that becomes more to the patron than just movie-viewing; it'll be a one of a kind movie-going experience…where fun meets the magic of movies.” A dynamic game room with 3D Lazer Tag is being planned as well.
The Smokey Hill 8 – envisioned and concepted by Dickinson Theatres, Inc. is expected to open by October 2008.

Christie & Company: The development will include a large discounter, home improvement center, junior anchors and a large indoor water attraction similar in nature to the Great Wolf Lodge in Kansas City as well as numerous restaurants and upscale retailers.
