Overland Park, Kans. - Wednesday, March 3, 2004 - Dickinson Theatres, in
cooperation with Midwest Cinema Group, broke ground on what is expected to be
Johnson County's most luxurious movie theatre. the Palazzo 16.
Dickinson cut ground early on March 3, 2004 at the SW corner of 135th and 69
Highway in the Village Pointe Shopping Center in Overland Park, Kans. for what
will be the gem of Johnson County's movie-going options.
A plush 16-screen theatre lavished in Italian villa decor, the Palazzo is
expected to be Dickinson's newest and most premiere movie venture. A concept in
creation with Dickinson Theatres since the luxurious Glenwood theatre opening
in the 1960's-the Palazzo hopes to exceed Johnson County movie-goers'
expectations for quality, comfort and experience.
The architectural plans include towering white columns, rich colors and
greenery, Italian-imported working fountains and detailed marble furnishings.
"It's been a dream of mine for a while now, to build a beautiful building that
services our guests with quality presentations, above-quality service in an
awe-inspiring environment," says John Hartley, president and CEO of Dickinson
Theatres. "We've taken the concerns of our customers from the last 40 years and
we've applied them to the Palazzo. From bathrooms to parking, we plan on
building a theatre that becomes more to the customer than just a movie-viewing,
it'll be a one of a kind movie-going experience.where elegance and fun meet the
magic of movies."
The Palazzo - envisioned by Dickinson Theatres, concepted by Darrin Ingram of
Gould Evans architectural design firm and constructed by Luke Draily - is
expected to open to the public in November 2004.
Dickinson Theatres owns and operates 39 movie theatres in the Midwest with 357
screens in Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, North Carolina,
Nebraska, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. A privately owned organization,
Dickinson Theatres is headquartered in Overland Park, Kans. and employs over
885 staff members including 22 full-time corporate office employees.
Dickinson Theatres announced plans today to lease 3 movie theatres in South
Carolina with the intention to purchase at a later date. With an expected
operational take-over date of June 1, 2004 , Dickinson Theatres will add 26
screens and South Carolina to the circuit.
John Hartley, president and CEO of Dickinson Theatres, Inc. has expressed his
delight in obtaining the outlets and the addition of South Carolina to the
company's current base of operations. "We are proud to add the REI Cinemas to
our Dickinson family" says Hartley, "we fully expect to continue the excellence
in customer service and motion picture presentation that the valued customers
have been accustomed to under the previous management."
Goodyear , Arizona - John W. Hartley, Jr., president and CEO of Dickinson
Theatres, Inc., announced today that plans have been finalized to take over
operation of the Palm Valley 14 Cinemas in Goodyear , Arizona beginning Friday,
May 7, 2004 .
"I am very pleased with this facility which features state-of-the-art projection
equipment, stadium seating in all auditoriums, wall to wall screens, digital
sound and high back rocking chairs with cup holders," commented Hartley. "We
will continue to operate the Palm Valley 14 Cinemas in the tradition of
Dickinson Theatres which is recognized as a family oriented and community
friendly company committed to serving the customer with exemplary care at a
value pricing structure."
The change in ownership will bring about the introduction of 50¢ popcorn and 50¢
Pepsi fountain drinks along with 50¢ select candies available anytime.
Dickinson Theatres, Inc. also offers free refills on any fountain drink or
popcorn purchases including the 50¢ items. In addition, West Valley customers
can expect student and military discounts and the lowest ticket prices in a
"modern" theatre facility.
Dickinson Theatres, along with local financial partners, Smithfield Cinemas LLC
announced plans today to build a 10-screen movie theatre in Smithfield , North
Carolina .
Partnered now with Dickinson Theatres, the theatre's contracted management
company, Smithfield Cinemas is moving forward on construction of what will be
Smithfield 's most luxurious movie theatre - bringing Dickinson 's reputation
for quality, family entertainment to the community of Smithfield , North
Carolina .
The architectural plans for the large multi-plex include full stadium seating in
each auditorium, cupholders in high-back rocker chairs, digital sound and
website ticketing.
The theatre is expected to open to the public in November 2004, just in time for
the big holiday movies.
