Who doesn’t remember this epic scene in the hit comedy Happiness Therapy ? Pat, Bradley Cooper’s character attends a football match, but gets heated among the supporters of the Eaglesshirtless and inflamed, he ends up losing his temper in a legendary fight.
This is just a taste of the Super Bowl, THE game of the year.
The Super Bowl is America’s event. The final of the National American Football League championship brings together millions of spectators each year. This giant show brings together actors and actresses from the cultural sector, including several cinema personalities. A very American ceremony and highly coveted by brands who invest massively in this show, giving them an incomparable global audience.
In the middle of this football final, trailers and advertisements are broadcast on a giant screen. Some are mini-sitcoms featuring American cinema stars.
In 1997, the very famous feature film by Gus Van Sant was released, Good Will Huntingnominated nine times for the Oscars with Ben Affleck and Matt Damon. Nearly thirty years later, the film is back in a Super Bowl ad that references it.
This is not the first time that the donut brand, Dunkin’, collaborates with Ben Affleck: since 2023 the actor-director has created hilarious advertising spots for the label. Some of them featured the actor’s brother, Casey Affleck (Manchester by the sea) or his former wife the singer and actress Jennifer Lopez (Lila & Eve).
This year it’s a comic parody of Good Will Hunting which was propelled to the final of the American football championship. To recreate an atmosphere nineteesthe director recalled television from the 90s. We then found two of the actors from FriendsJennifer Aniston and Matt LeBlanc, but also the stars of Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Cheers, A different world, Seinfeld And Family Matters. A one-minute ad where Ben Affleck, who sports Matt Damon’s haircut in the 1997 film, can’t help but write a math formula on the cafe window Dunkin’ Donuts.
