The Devil Wears Prada 3? The cast wants a sequel and quickly!
“I don’t think we can wait another 20 years. We have to do it sooner, otherwise I’ll be dead!”
Barely released in theaters, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is already a hit worldwide (40 million even before its American release).
Obviously, the adventures of Miranda Priestly and Andy Sachs in the world of fashion and the press still fascinate the crowds. So why not anticipate a new sequel already, without waiting 20 years? This is the message from casting for the Disney studio, which produces the saga: we must do The Devil Wears Prada 3 and we must do it now!
Interviewed by Entertainment Weekly, Meryl Streep, as well as Anne Hathaway, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt, and director David Frankel display a cautious but very real optimism:
“I hope they don’t wait 20 years!” jokes Streep, referring to the long delay between the original 2006 film and its sequel. Same story with Tucci, who drives the point home with his usual humor: “I don’t think we can wait another 20 years. We have to do it sooner, otherwise I’ll be dead!“Before adding, squeaky: “Or it will be possible… if they dig us up!”
Because the age of the cast is obviously a subject: Meryl Streep is 76 years old, Stanley Tucci is 65 years old and even the director is approaching 70 years old.
On Emily Blunt’s side, we prefer to assume a certain taste for patience:
“We like to let the time simmer between these films.” But she also recognizes that the desire is there, especially with Tucci: “It would be fun to do a third movie… We still have things to do together.”
Because in this second part, their characters were largely separated. A shared frustration: “We loved what we did, but we didn’t have enough scenes together,” regrets Blunt, even evoking the desire to have “a little more to get our teeth into for two.”
More pragmatic, Anne Hathaway refers to the reality of the box office: “I hope we can make another film. I feel like there are still things to explore.” Before tempering: “But we will surely know more when the film is released.”
Behind the camera, David Frankel reminds us that these characters still have potential: “There is a life for them beyond this story.” Without getting ahead of yourself: “We’ll see. It’s show business, everything is possible. We said no 20 years ago… and here we are.“Before concluding: “I don’t want to say yes right now. But they’re very rich characters, with incredible acting and great writing. I can imagine them living on.”
So when The Devil Wears Prada 3 ?
