Cannes 2026: it’s going to bleed in Sanguine, French horror film set in a hospital environment

The feature film gets a first teaser, before being presented in a Midnight Screening at the Cannes Film Festival.

French horror cinema is doing very well, thank you for it. And obviously all the more so when women are in business and the Cannes Festival opens the doors to them: after Julia Ducournau or Coralie Fargeat, here is Marion Le Corroller, who signs with Sanguine his first feature film.

Presented in a Midnight Screening on the Croisette, the film will tell the story of Margot, who has always dreamed of becoming a doctor. While she struggles to keep up with the hellish pace of the emergency department in which she takes her first steps, the young intern welcomes patients her age with troubling symptoms. The recurrence of these exceptional cases questions her, especially as she observes, on her own body, increasingly worrying manifestations…

In the cast, we will find Mara Taquin, Karin Viard, Kim Higelin, Sami Outalbali, Stefan Crepon and Sonia Faidi. “ My first desire was to film bodies violated by the world of work. Bodies trying to adapt at all costs to a hostile and pressurizing environment, bodies undergoing metamorphoses, bodies malleable to the needs of the market, bodies dispossessed of their soul », writes the director in her note of intent.

Genre films have the advantage of offering entertainment under a social and political background. This is Sanguine’s entire ambition. HAS At a time when Generation Z’s relationship to work has never been so discussed in the public space, it seems to me that these debates raise more existential questions about the accomplishment of a generation. These young people may not yet know what they want, but one thing is certain, they know exactly what they do not want. Above all, they have the audacity to put on the table a question that governs each of us and is at the very heart of our existence: what life do we really want? »

And just to get a little idea of the atmosphere, a short teaser shows us a burger seller visibly suffering from the strange illness that is gnawing away at Margot’s patients. Sanguine will be released in theaters on October 28.
