Doctor Doom vs. Thanos? Robert Downey Jr. has decided

The actor is convinced: the MCU saga is ready to start from scratch with a new big villain.

A few months before his big return to the Marvel Universe, Robert Downey Jr. has already started to increase the pressure aroundAvengers: Doomsday.

Surprise guest at a screening ofAvengers: Infinity War during SXSW London, the former interpreter of Iron Man was asked about a question that has agitated fans since we knew he would return: who is more powerful between Thanos and Doctor Doom?

His response was immediate: “Doctor Doom.”


The actor, who will now play the famous supervillain in Avengers: Doomsdayleft no room for doubt before joking about the fact that he had a green microphone in his hands, the emblematic color of the character.

Thanos was for a decade the ultimate antagonist of Marvel’s heroes, in the guise of Josh Brolin. And Doom seems destined to remain the main threat of the MCU’s new era.

Downey Jr. admits it will be impossible to surpass or duplicate the impact ofInfinity War andEndgame. But he believes that after the failures of recent years, Marvel is ready to start again on a new basis with Doom at its heart:

We are literally resetting the counters. We will try to regain your trust and respect. We want to start everything from scratchhe explained, promising a new direction for the MCU after phases 4 and 5 often criticized by fans.

Comments which echo those of the brothers Joe and Anthony Russo, directors of the film, who already describe Avengers: Doomsday as a sort of “phase zero” of the Marvel Universe.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in cinemas on December 16, 2026 in France. The film will open the home stretch of the Multiverse Saga before Avengers: Secret Warsexpected in 2027.
