Bradley Cooper Replaces Channing Tatum in New GI Joe Movie
The A Star Is Born actor returns to action film in this reboot of the Hasbro franchise, which will ultimately no longer be linked to Transformers.
While he is currently filming the prequel toOcean’s ElevenBradley Cooper prepares to don a US Army fatigues.
Oscar-winning actor and director A Star is Born will put on the uniform of Duke, alias Conrad Hauser, one of the historical characters of G.I. Joe and the team’s field manager.
He was the one Channing Tatum played in the two films of 2009 and 2013.
Bradley Cooper will therefore succeed Tatum, after GI Joe: Rise of the Cobra in 2009 and GI Joe: Conspiracy in 2013. The first grossed $302.5 million worldwide, including $150.2 million in the United States. The second did better at the worldwide box office with 375.7 million dollars, including 253.2 million internationally. The franchise then attempted a new start with Snake Eyesreleased in 2021 and carried by Henry Golding, but without finding the commercial scale of the two previous films (only 40 million).
It should be noted that this new film will not be a sequel but a reboot from Paramount, directed by Danny McBride.
Plot details and the rest of the casting are still being kept under wraps, but Paramount is promising a new take on the popular franchise inspired by Hasbro toys. McBride wrote the screenplay himself with Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri.
Above all, Paramount confirms that this G.I. Joe new version will ultimately be “not coupled” to a new Transformers. The crossover between the two universes had however been teased at the end of Transformers: Rise of the Beastsreleased in 2023. But all this should remain a dead letter.
For Bradley Cooper, this role adds to an already busy schedule. The actor is currently filming the new film Ocean’s Elevena prequel directed by himself and in which he co-stars with Margot Robbie and Monica Barbaro.
For Danny McBride, however, it is a radical change of scale. The creator of The Righteous Gemstones had directed the pilot of the HBO series as well as several episodes of Vice Principalsbut had never before directed a true action blockbuster.
No release date has yet been announced for this new G.I. Joe.
