The Paramount and Warner Bros. merger will be called Skydance
The future Hollywood giant will ultimately have a very familiar name: that of the production company created by David Ellison. He explains it in a message published on the networks.
It’s official: the future entity born from the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery will be called Skydance.
David Ellison, president and CEO of Paramount Skydance, chose to use the name of his production company, Skydance Media, to christen the entire new conglomerate.
The merger is expected to be finalized on October 6. It will bring together two of the biggest Hollywood studios, but also their streaming platforms HBO Max and Paramount+, as well as a vast portfolio of television channels including CBS, CNN, MTV, TBS, Comedy Central and Food Network.
On the cinema and series side, the new group will also recover some of the most famous franchises in the industry: Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, the DC universe, Yellowstone, Mission: Impossible, Top Gun, without forgetting the entire Nickelodeon youth empire.
If Skydance becomes the name of the new company, Paramount and Warner Bros. will retain their own identities and remain the iconic brands under which the public knows their films and series. A way for Ellison to create a common banner without erasing the history of the two studios.
What once was the peak, is now just the beginning.
Paramount and Warner Bros. shaped over a century of culture. By combining them, we aren’t rewriting history — we’re equipping these iconic studios with a more powerful engine. Together, we are Skydance: a creative-first home for… pic.twitter.com/uInLRY3IrE

“We chose this name for several important reasons. Above all, in bringing Paramount and Warner Bros. together, we wanted to preserve what made each of these studios iconic. Both have distinct identities, extraordinary legacies and brands that have resonated with audiences for generations. We never wanted a new corporate identity to diminish, alter or eclipse either. Instead, we wanted a name that gave the new company its own identity, while still allowing Paramount and Warner Bros., as well for all our extraordinary brands to stay in the spotlight,” explains David Ellison in this message posted on the networks.
The merger will finally be accompanied by a new organization at its head: Ynon Kreiz, former boss of Mattel, will become co-CEO alongside Ellison. The latter will retain his role as president and CEO and will notably oversee strategy, creative activities and technology, while Kreiz will take charge of daily operations and the integration of the different activities.
