The Batman II: filming on the sequel has finally started

Steven Soderbergh will finish The Batman 2 and help Matt Reeves

The director of Traffic will support his colleague for the last weeks of filming of the film with Robert Pattinson, while the latter must be absent from the sets for a family matter.

Filming will be able to resume… but in strange conditions.

Steven Soderbergh arrives on The Batman II to direct the film during the final weeks of filming, with the support of DC Studios. Because Matt Reeves has temporarily stepped away from the set since the beginning of the month, to settle a family matter. The Black Knight has been on standby for two weeks. He will be able to resume his activities, but guided by another filmmaker.

In a press release, the studio specifies that Soderbergh, an admirer of Reeves’ work, spontaneously offered his help. “Matt and Steven will work closely with the cast and crew to bring Matt’s vision for the film to life“, indicates DC Studios. The Oscar-winning filmmaker himself explained his approach:

“I found Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman remarkable: thoughtful, precise and rigorously coherent. The objective is to work with Matt and his team to shoot images that will integrate perfectly with those already created, so that he can complete his film in the best conditions.“

It should be noted that he does not replace Matt Reeves. The latter emphasizes that he will remain involved in the production and will ensure that the film corresponds to his vision. He clarified the situation on X:

“For the avoidance of doubt, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am deeply grateful to Steven, who came to my aid during this difficult time to enable me to complete principal photography. Thank you all for your concern and messages of support..”

Warner Bros. and DC Studios had announced a hiatus “temporary” from production to the beginning of October, time for the director to manage this family affair, the content of which we do not know.

This nevertheless reminds us of the case Justice Leaguein 2015, when Joss Whedon came to replace Zack Snyder after the tragic death of his daughter. At the time, he had completely taken over the project and Warner Bros. had even validated reshoots. The studio is not following the same route, obviously. The Batman II will remain Matt Reeves’ film.

Even if the arrival of Soderbergh, director of Traffic, Erin Brockovich And Sex, lies and videoawarded the Oscar for best director, constitutes a significant reinforcement. His recent projects, Presence has The Christophers passing through Black Baghowever, met with a more discreet response. Above all, Steven Soderbergh has not directed a blockbuster of this magnitude since Ocean’s Thirteen20 years ago…

The Batman II is currently due to be released in cinemas in France on February 16, 2028.

Robert Pattinson will return as Bruce Wayne, alongside a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Colin Farrell, Sebastian Stan, Andy Serkis and Jeffrey Wright.
