A Heat 3 already envisaged by Michael Mann?

While Heat 2 has not even started filming yet, a third part of the criminal saga is already in the works. But its existence will depend on one essential factor: the success of the next film.

The heist hasn’t even started yet and Michael Mann is already thinking about what’s next. While the production of Heat 2 must finally begin next November, a third episode of the saga is already being considered behind the scenes.

According to TheWrapa source close to the production claims that a third film is currently in the plans, with the ambition of further expanding the universe imagined by Michael Mann around his characters and his criminal world.

A necessarily exciting prospect for fans of the original film released in 1995, especially since Heat 2 is shaping up to be an event. Adaptation of the novel published in 2022 by Michael Mann and Meg Gardiner, the film will tell both a prequel and sequel story, notably exploring the youth of the characters before the events of the first film, then the consequences of its outcome.

To carry this new generation, Michael Mann has brought together a strong cast: Leonardo DiCaprio and Christian Bale are announced in the main roles, while the film must take up the universe once marked by the legendary face-to-face between Al Pacino and Robert De Niro in the 1995 feature film.

But before seeing a possible arrival Heat 3it will first be necessary that Heat 2 convinces. The fate of the third part will largely depend on the critical reception and especially the box office success of the second chapter.

The budget of Heat 2 would have experienced significant variations during its development, before stabilizing around 165 million dollars. A substantial investment which implies that the film must achieve a solid performance in theaters in order to hope to become profitable.

A source close to the production, however, is very ambitious, estimating that Heat 2 could become a generational film, with potential exceeding $500 million at the worldwide box office. But here we are really in conjecture…
