Is Daredevil over? Season 3 should be the last

The return of Matt Murdock on Disney+ should end. After only three seasons, Daredevil: Born Again will end in 2027, while filming of the final chapter is almost finished.

Daredevil’s second act at Marvel is coming to an end.

According to information from The Hollywood Reporter, confirmed by the rest of the American press immediately, Daredevil: Born Again will end with its season 3.

We are still waiting for the official announcement from Marvel Studio but the final round between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk will take place in 2027 on Disney+.

A decision which comes when the filming of this latest round is already finished or almost, and post-production is now well advanced.

Behind the scenes, the studio also let go of Dario Scardapane – the showrunner – who had taken control of the series during its major creative overhaul after the strikes of 2023. His contract came to an end and Marvel Studios chose not to renew it. It remains to be seen who will supervise the end of post-production of this third season.

The decision is all the more surprising given that Marvel Television recently showed great ambitions for Daredevil: Born Again.

Brad Winderbaum, boss of Marvel Television, explained that he wanted to make it an annual series for Disney+. But season 2 recorded a drop in audience on the platform, in a context where Marvel is gradually reducing the number of its series. Recently, season 2 of Wonder Man was abandoned despite its initial order…

For fans, this abrupt announcement comes as the Defenders were about to regroup. The series gradually recreated the universe of the Netflix version by bringing back Krysten Ritter then Mike Colter (Jessica Jones and Luke Cage) and soon Finn Jones (Iron Fist).

This ending will necessarily recall the first fall of Daredevil, then broadcast on Netflix, which was also canceled in 2018 after 3 seasons. But at the time, this decision was precipitated by the entry of Disney+ into the streaming market. This time, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen should have the opportunity to say goodbye in a more calm manner.

For now, Marvel has not announced a specific date.

Note that the series derived from the MCU continue despite everything: VisionQuest, with Paul Bettany, will be launched on October 14 and will constitute the last part of the television trilogy initiated by WandaVision. The studio has also ordered a new spy series called Zodiac. For the moment, Marvel has not specified which character or organization in the comic book universe this title would refer to.
