James Van Der Beek says goodbye to the cinema.
A few days after his death from cancer, we discover the trailer for The Gatesa brutal thriller for Lionsgate. The film will be released in American theaters on March 13, 2026, one month after the actor’s death at age 48 (no date yet in France).
The star of Dawson will play a villain as charismatic as he is disturbing: an influential pastor ruling over a closed community. The plot follows three students – Derek, Kevin and Tyon – whose road trip turns into a nightmare when they take a shortcut through an isolated neighborhood. Witnesses to a murder, they find themselves trapped behind the bars, accused, hunted down… and divided by their own convictions.
The trailer (below) promises enormous tension and a James Van Der Beek creepier than ever.
The film is written and directed by John Burr, already behind the supernatural thriller Muse. On the casting side, we also find Mason Gooding, Algee Smith and Keith Powers.
