Madame Web: “It wasn’t my fault” defends Dakota Johnson
The Marvel film, broadcast this evening on TF1 free-to-air, was one of the biggest flops of the year 2024. The actress who plays the title role refuses to take the failure personally and analyzes this failure as the result of changes in decisions behind the scenes.

Madame Webreleased in 2024, was one of the biggest flops in Marvel history. And Sony recently assured that it was the critics’ fault.
Dakota Johnson in turn swears that she has nothing to do with it. During the promotion of Materialistslast year, the American star cleared herself of the superhero film in which she was the title star, and which will be broadcast unencrypted this evening on TF1.
In a recent interview with Los Angeles TimesDakota Johnson returned to this Sony project which did not exceed $100 million in worldwide revenue. : “It wasn’t my fault” assured the actress before explaining what, according to her, was the cause of the very poor reception from the public and critics:
“There’s this phenomenon that’s happening now: a lot of creative decisions are made by committee. Or by people who don’t have the creative streak. And it’s really hard to create art that way, or something that’s entertaining. And I think unfortunately, with Madame Web, it went that way and it took a different turn. And I was right there at the time. But it happens. Big budget films fail all the time.”

Emma Roberts, one of his co-stars in Madame Web with Sydney Sweeney and Isabela Merced, also spoke on the subject for Variety. According to her, the current era of social networks was more at fault in history:
“If it hadn’t been for the culture of the Internet, that everything today can be made fun of, become a joke or a meme, I think the reception of the film would have been different.”
