One week before the Oscars, Sinners and One Battle After Another continue to pull their punches

Ryan Coogler’s film and Paul Thomas Anderson’s film shared the trophies again this weekend. The race promises to be tight until next Sunday and the awarding of the Oscar for Best Film.

The two favorites for the next Oscars are still neck and neck.

One week before the 98th ceremony, Sinners And One battle after another continue to share the rewards in the ceremonies of guilds Hollywood. It’s difficult, for the moment, to know which one will walk away with the most statuettes – and especially that of Best Film, next Sunday.

Last night in New York, Sinners won Best Original Screenplay at the Writers Guild of America Awards, ahead of Black Bag, If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, Marty Supreme And Fainted. This award salutes the script of Ryan Coogler’s supernatural horror film, already considered one of the most striking screenplays of the year.

But at the same time, in the category of Best Adapted Screenplay, it is One Battle after another by Paul Thomas Anderson who won, ahead of Bugonia, Frankenstein, Train Dreams And Hamnet. Another important victory for the film.

At the same time, One battle after another also triumphed on the photography side. Its cinematographer Michael Bauman won the main prize at the 40th American Society of Cinematographers Awards. In this category, five cinematographers were in the running including Dan Laustsen for Frankenstein (Netflix), Darius Khondji for Marty Supreme (A24), Autumn Durald Arkapaw for Sinners (Warner Bros.) and Adolpho Veloso for Train Dreams (Netflix). All of them will also be nominated in the Best Cinematography category at the Oscars.

But Sinners did not leave empty-handed on the technical side. Ryan Coogler’s film was also awarded at the Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards, which were also held this Sunday at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles. On the occasion of this 73rd edition, the film won two trophies: that of best sound editing for dialogue/ADR and that of best musical editing for a feature film. Each year, these prizes recognize the best work in sound editing, sound design, musical editing and sound effects creation.

Two everywhere, ball in the middle. The struggle between Sinners And One battle after another look very tight. Previously, the vampire film dominated the Actor Awards (formerly SAG Awards) by winning both main prizes, while the anarchic farce won at the BAFTAs and Paul Thomas Anderson was crowned Best Director at the Directors Guild of America Awards. So which of the two will win at the end of this marathon season?
