Pixar announces new original film with ghosts for 2028

The studio will explore Asian legends with Ghost Market, a new supernatural adventure expected in spring 2028.

Pixar is preparing a new original film. Baptized Ghost Marketthis feature film will be inspired by Asian myths telling of the existence of mysterious markets where the living can encounter the dead. The announcement was made by Pete Docter, artistic director of Pixar, during D23.

The film will follow Kyle, a teenager from Chicago who dreams of becoming a content creator and who talks way too fast. When his mother forces him to go on vacation to Hawaii, his trip takes an unexpected turn when he discovers a hidden market in the middle of nowhere.

Synopsis: Hidden in a secluded spot on Oahu’s North Shore is “Ono Market”, a restaurant that serves meals to lost spirits stuck between life and death. The living have never set foot there… until Kyle, a talkative future content creator, accidentally shows up there, eats a dish meant for the dead, and unwittingly turns into a half-ghost. To become himself again, he will have to face paranormal deliveries, long days in a haunted kitchen and, most terrifying of all… his own family.

In the production, we will find Trevor Jimenez, Pixar veteran who notably signed the short film Weekendsnominated for an Oscar in 2017. He also worked on Drunk and co-directed an episode of the Disney+ series Win or Lose.

Originally, Ghost Market was to be developed as a series intended for streaming before Pixar decided to ultimately make it into a feature film. The film will be released in spring 2028, after The Incredibles 3also scheduled for that year.

With Ghost MarketPixar is therefore continuing its desire to increase the number of original films while continuing to develop its franchises. Besides, Pixar’s next original film will be Neroexpected on March 5.
