Resident Evil: a gory extract that announces a bloody film
Discover this first particularly violent extract from the new Resident Evil, which suggests that Zach Cregger is perhaps preparing the goriest film of his career.
It’s raining zombies!
The new resident Evil revealed its first extract, during PlayStation’s State of Play event.
And obviously, Zach Cregger’s film will be deliciously gory. Perhaps the trashiest ever made by the filmmaker of Barbarous And Fainted.
The excerpt shown at State of Play focuses on Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams. While making a delivery, the young man finds himself caught in the middle of an epidemic and must try to survive in a Raccoon City that has become particularly dangerous. The video shows him running down a deserted street, while a crowd of undead throw themselves at him from the roofs of surrounding buildings.
Each zombie then crashes onto the snowy asphalt in a joyous explosion of guts and brains. A pool of blood… but none come back to life. And the young man realizes that, yes, these undead can die!
This new feature film will constitute the second reboot of the franchise in cinema and the eighth live-action film dedicated to resident Evil.
The cast also includes Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, Paul Walter Hauser and Johnno Wilson. Zach Cregger co-wrote the screenplay with Shay Hatten.
And unlike previous adaptations, there is no question here of finding Leon Kennedy or other emblematic characters from the games. The story will be entirely original and will follow new protagonists.
“It respects the mythology of the games, it’s just a different story. I’m not going to tell Leon’s story, because his story is told in the games. The fans already have it“, explained Cregger.
An approach which ultimately recalls the first resident Evil from 2002, who also chose to create a new character with Alice, played by Milla Jovovich. It now remains to be seen how far Zach Cregger intends to push the horror.
This new resident Evil in theaters in France on September 16.
