This Avengers: Doomsday actor admits “not having understood everything” about the film

“Just tell me where I should point and what I should point at…”

Even Alan Cumming doesn’t really know what’s going on in Avengers: Doomsday… And yet, he stars in it!

Back in the shoes of Nightcrawler for the next opus from the Russo brothers, the 61-year-old actor admits that he did not completely understand the plot. When asked by SiriusXM about his experience filming, Cumming explained:

“To be honest, I don’t really understand the whole story of the film… There was a moment where we were shooting a scene, and it was one of the few times I was actually on set and not in front of a blue screen…”

A member of the team then came to explain to him what was supposed to happen:

“He said to me, ‘So, Alan, these huge robots are blah blah blah…,’ and he started explaining it to me. And I was like, ‘You know what, thank you very much, but just tell me where I should point and what I should point at. And I’ll do that. Really, I know I’m just here to run around!’

In other words, Alan Cumming admits that he barely delivers an acting performance and just follows instructions on a set where even he doesn’t really know what’s going on.

A rather tasty admission as Marvel still jealously keeps the Doomsday storyline under lock and key. We nevertheless know that the heroes of several universes will find themselves confronted with an existential threat, with Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr., at the center of the conflict.

Marvel’s official synopsis remains deliberately mysterious: “Avengers: Doomsday follows beloved heroes from three distinct universes, thrown into an inevitable collision and confronted with an existential threat unlike anything they’ve ever faced.”

For the rest, the information is distilled in dribs and drabs. The announced cast notably brings together Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie, Florence Pugh, Channing Tatum, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell and therefore Alan Cumming, returning as Nightcrawler.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released on December 16, 2026 in cinemas in France.
