Wai Ching Ho, disturbing Madame Gao from Marvel series, dies at 83
Enemy of Daredevil and the Defenders in Netflix’s Marvel series, Wai Ching Ho died at the age of 83 following a stroke.
She was Daredevil’s adversary at the time of Netflix’s Marvel series (now available on Disney+).
Actress Wai Ching Ho died on July 10 at the age of 83 following a stroke. The news was confirmed by his family to Variety, who also relayed a press release welcoming the numerous messages of support received since the announcement of his death.
“Our family is deeply grateful for the incredible outpouring of love and support and for the many memories shared about our dear Wai. Reading how much she meant to so many people brings us some comfort during this ordeal,” her loved ones wrote.
Marvel fans will remember Wai Ching Ho above all for her portrayal of Madame Gao, one of the founders of the fearsome criminal organization “The Hand”. Appearing in the first season of Daredevil in 2015, she then took up this character in season 2 of the series, before finding him again in Iron Fist then in the choral finale The Defenders.
Tributes from his former partners were quick to pour in. Peter Shinkoda, who played Nobu in Daredevil, praised on Instagram an actress whose “generosity” he will never forget and from whom he said he learned “at every moment, on and off the set”. “We will see each other again one day, my friend. You were a magnificent person,” he wrote.
Perry Yung, who co-starred with her in High Resolution (2018), also paid tribute to a “kind and deeply compassionate woman”, saying that her talent “elevated each of the productions in which she participated”.
