4,000 French artists denounce the “regular plunder” of AI in a forum

Swann Arlaud, Karin Viard, Elodie Bouchez, Franck Dubosc…actors and actresses are rising up against artificial intelligence.

A “brutal competition” which would dangerously endanger the integrity of artists.

After the fake fight between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise which panicked Hollywood, it is the turn of French actors and actresses to worry about the advent of AI.

A few days before the 51st Caesar ceremony, a column published by THE Parisian denounces the phenomenon which threatens the film industry: “We face a profound mutation of our profession since the arrival ofartificial intelligence. This tool, extraordinarily precious for certain professions, is also a devouring hydra for the artists that we are”.

Among these signatories, we include Swann Arlaud, Gérard Jugnot, Franck Dubosc and José Garcia, as well as Léa Drucker, Elodie Bouchez and Karine Viard.

According to them, it is above all aspiring artists who suffer: “(…) hundreds of artists, less established, who often do not have the means to refuse a contract, who cede their rights for AI, despite the risks for their image and their future”.

Actors are calling for the creation of a “legal framework” that would limit the damage: so that “AI can coexist with the work of artists and respect for copyright and related rights”.

In December 2024, the anti-AI movement “Don’t touch my VF”, launched by dubbing actors, already called for mobilization against this new technology: “For us it’s a nightmare” This extremely weakened sector has not been forgotten by the signatories of the forum: “Unauthorized voice cloning of actresses is becoming legion”.

The rise of AI is increasingly worrying the world of cinema, including Hollywood. Screenwriter Rhett Reese (Deadpool & Wolverine, Zombieland) recently reacted to the famous video of the fake fight between Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise on his X account: “I hate to say this…but it’s probably over for us.”
