Tell Me Lies is over: season 3 on Disney+ was the last!

“This is definitely the ending that I had always imagined and presented years ago” reveals the showrunner today, as the last episode is posted online on the platform.

It’s a bold move to say the least!

Ending a series without warning its fans is rare. And that’s what Tell Me lies has just done! A few hours before putting the last episode of season 3 online, the creator/showrunner announces that it will be the finale… of the series! And it was planned for a long time.

In a message posted on Instagram, Meaghan Oppenheimer announces that Tell Me Lies will end with this third season.

“After three incredible seasons of Tell Me Lies, tonight’s episode will be the series finale. This was always the ending that my writing team and I had in mind, and we are extremely proud of it. Your incredible reactions to this season made us want to explore other ways to continue the story, but ultimately we felt that it had reached its natural conclusion. My main goal has always been to protect the quality of the series and give you the best experience possible. So it’s both Bittersweet to leave behind something that was so happy to create, but I’m very grateful to have been able to tell a complete story with an intentional ending — a privilege that very few shows get. Thank you for loving our series. We look forward to telling you more stories soon.

Adapted from the novel by Carola Lovering (2018), the series began in September 2022 and tells the destructive relationship between two university students, as well as the escapades of their particularly complicated group of friends. The cast includes Grace Van Patten, Jackson White and Tom Ellis.

The series followed two timelines: one between 2008 and 2010, during the college years at the fictional Baird College, and another in 2015 after college, focusing on the wedding – and the weeks leading up to it – between Bree (Catherine Missal) and Evan (Branden Cook). Season 3 introduced a new romance between Bree and Wrigley (Spencer House), Evan’s best friend, quickly captivating fans.

Even if the third season was not announced as a finale, Oppenheimer specifies:

“This is definitely the ending I always imagined and presented years ago.”

The End.

The entire Tell Me lies is currently available on Disney Plus.
