Owen and Teddy are leaving Grey’s Anatomy! Departure announced at the end of season 22

Two new historics from Seattle Grace are bowing out, after hundreds of episodes of saving lives…

Perhaps they will finally find happiness, far from Seattle…

Two major figures from Grey’s Anatomy are preparing to bow out: Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver will leave the series at the end of season 22. The departure of their characters, Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman, will be noted during the finale broadcast on May 7 on ABC in the United States (then in France on Disney +).

The iconic duo has left its mark on Seattle Grace for years. Both former army majors, they met in Baghdad during the Iraq War. Owen and Teddy will never stop losing each other and finding each other. Married (finally!) in season 18, they are now going through a new crisis: officially divorced after an attempt at an open marriage which turned into a fiasco… But since they will both leave the series, at the same time, we say to ourselves that they will certainly leave together… as a couple?

It’s entirely possible and it’s even what would have motivated the production’s decision. While season 22 still has four episodes before its finale, creator Shonda Rhimes suggests in her message that the two characters could well be entitled to a gentler exit than expected… or even a happy ending.

“Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of watching the love story between Owen and Teddy evolve and strengthen: two characters who always come together in the end. It’s both bittersweet and joyful to give them the happy ending their story deserves. Kevin and Kim bring exceptional talent, nuance and emotion to their roles, leaving an indelible mark on Grey’s Anatomy.”

Arriving in season 5, Kevin McKidd established himself as one of the pillars of the medical drama. It has reached the milestone of 380 episodes on the clock! Kim Raver, introduced the following season, quickly became a regular before leaving the series at the end of season 8, then gradually returning from season 14. She has more than 200 episodes of Grey’s Anatomy. According to the American press, their departure would be a creative decision – and not a financial one – but as is often the case in Grey’s Anatomy, the door remains open to a possible return. Probably Owen and Teddy will come back later to hang out, like Jackson and April before them…
