New films by Lazlo Nemes, Léa Mysius, Ryuzuke Hamaguchi, Arthur Harari, Asghar Farhadi, Paweł Pawlikowski, Daniel Auteuil and Ira Sachs will also be presented on the Croisette.

The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival has revealed its official selection. The traditional press conference was introduced in a serious tone by President Iris Knobloch, who wanted to contextualize the major event of world cinema in current affairs.

The general delegate Thierry Frémaux took the hand to list the list of 21 films in competition for the Palme d’Or where American directors are almost absent (with the exception of Ira Sachs). French filmmakers are very present. Arthur Harari and his new film, The Unknownwith Léa Seydoux, Jeanne Herry, for the first time in Cannes and in competition with Madder (worn by Adèle Exarchopoulos), as well as Léa Mysius and her Night stories (with Hafsia Herzi and Bastien Bouillon) and A Woman’s Life by Charline Bourgeois-Tacquet (with Léa Drucker and Mélanie Thierry).

The second largest contingent will be formed by Spain, with three films in the running for the Palme d’Or: The loved one (El Ser Querido) by Rodrigo Sorogoyen (with Javier Bardem), Autofiction (Amarga Christmas) by Pedro Almodovar and The Black Bolaa film about the Spanish Civil War by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi.

In the race, we also find Side storiesthe new Asghar Farhadi filmed in France with Virginie Efira, Vincent Cassel, Isabelle Huppert and Pierre Niney, the Mill by Lazlo Nemes with Gilles Lellouche, Suddenly by Ryuzuke Hamaguchi (with Virginie Efira) or even Fahterland by Paweł Pawlikowski (with Sandra Huller).

Out of competition, we can note the presence of the new Guillaume Canet (Karmawith Marion Cotillard), The object of the crime by Agnès Jaoui and the first part of Antonin Baudry’s biopic on General de Gaulle. Quentin Dupieux will present Full Phil (with Woody Harrelson and Kristen Steward) in Midnight Screening. The Marie-Claire affairthe film about the Bobigny trial with Charlotte Gainsbourg, will be in Special Screenings. Finally, at Cannes Première we will be able to see the new Daniel Auteuil (The third night).
