livre.2 will soon be broadcast unencrypted on TF1

Why is Brief making a comeback 14 years later? Kyan Khojandi explains

The cult Canal + pastille returns this evening on TF1 in a new format. Its creator confides to Première what motivated this sequel.

I looked at him, he looked at me…

A must-see event for the Grand Journal and emerging social networks between 2011 and 2012, Brief had revolutionized television in just 82 episodes. An innovative format to tell a universal story, the ordinary adventures of a thirty-year-old in search of love.

After just one season – and a very melancholic ending – Brief had rolled out its end credits. But 14 years later, Kyan Khojandi and Navo are doing it again! Without warning, Brief returns for a surprise season 2 that no one (or almost) saw coming. After its streaming on Disney+ last year, TF1 is broadcasting in the clear in brief.2 from this evening.

So the Canal era is over. And it’s not just the broadcaster that changes since the format also evolves. This season 2 of Brief will no longer be in the form of intense pastilles, but of a more classic comedy: 6 episodes of 30 minutes, in which we will find the guy from Brief at the center of everything, as well as the whole gang of the time and new guest stars as a bonus.

But then why bring back Brief now? What made Kyan Khojandi and Navo want to restart the Brief machine? And why did they wait so many years?

For Première, Kyan Khojandi confided last year: “We had to dare!” (in a long interview to read in issue 559). “We first asked ourselves the question like this: are we bringing Brief out of its box? And then we realized that the real question was: what do we have to tell?”

Because Khojandi and Navo had indeed finished the series at the time, because they had nothing more to say:

“We were going around in circles with my friend Bruno (Muschio, says Navo). We were afraid of self-parodying so we stopped. Since then, 13 years have passed. He and I have experienced a lot of things. Moments in our lives that touched us, that intrigued us, that made us laugh. And about 3 years ago I said to Navo: I think we’re ready to come back to that.”

In February 2025, brief.2 landed, somewhat to everyone’s surprise, on Disney+. A sudden exit assumed by Kyan Khojandi, who explained to Première that he wanted to “avoid being asked questions about it all the time” and above all wanted to avoid the effect of announcement:

“Be careful, Anyway 2 is coming in a year… I don’t like that! I don’t like these announcements very early on. We prefer to say: ‘There, it’s coming out in 10 days.’ A bit like a gift that spectators will only have to unwrap…”

Today, it is TF1 viewers who will be able to appreciate the very successful sequel to Brief, in the clear and in prime time.
