Already a recast among the Weasleys in the new Harry Potter series

Gracie Cochrane, chosen to play Ginny, must leave the production. The character will change face in season 2.

Gracie Cochrane, cast as Ginny Weasley in the HBO television adaptation, left the project after finishing filming her scenes for season 1. She unfortunately won’t be able to return for season 2.

In a joint press release, the young actress and her family evoke “unforeseen circumstances” behind this decision:

“Gracie made the difficult decision to step down from her role as Ginny Weasley after season 1. Her time in the Harry Potter universe has been wonderful and she is extremely grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for this unforgettable experience.”

HBO also confirmed this resignation, stating that it fully supported this decision and thanked the actress for her work on the first season. We do not know the exact reasons for her departure, but it is possible that the pressure or the workload required to play Ginny frightened the young actress, only 11 years old, and who would have been used a lot in season 2.

Because if Ginny only appears briefly in the first volume, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, the character becomes central in The Chamber of Secrets, which will serve as the basis for season 2. Ron Weasley’s little sister – Harry Potter’s future great love – finds herself at the heart of the plot when she unintentionally opens the Chamber of Secrets under the influence of Tom Riddle’s diary, releasing the Basilisk into the corridors of Hogwarts.

The first season of Harry Potter has now finished filming and is due to air from next Christmas. Season 2 has already entered pre-production at Leavesden Studios, near London. It now remains to discover who will take over the role of Ginny for the continuation of this highly anticipated rereading of JK Rowling’s saga.
