What will Lex Luthor’s bionic armor look like in Superman: Man of Tomorrow?

James Gunn has just revealed a highly anticipated first preview: Luthor’s iconic battle armor will make an appearance in the Superman sequel, and it will not be in CGI!

While the filming of Superman: Man of Tomorrow is underway, James Gunn shared a first photo of Nicholas Hoult in Lex Luthor’s famous “warsuit”. The director simply commented on the image with humor: “Fitting. Live from the filming of Man of Tomorrow.

In the DC comics, this green and purple armor allows Luthor to physically rival Superman thanks to superhuman strength, the ability to fly, force fields and an arsenal of integrated weapons.


And the filmmaker confirmed it: the armor will be real on the set. When asked about Threads, Gunn clarified that she would be “100% practical” So without CGI. He also praised the performance of his actor: “Nicholas can move incredibly fluidly” despite the weight of the costume.

The filmmaker also revealed a notable difference with the comics. Traditionally, Luthor’s face remains exposed. Here, the billionaire added “Unbreakable Lexiglas” to protect his head.

Another intriguing detail: the logo visible on the torso is not that of LuthorCorp but that of ARGUS. A clue which could suggest that Rick Flag Sr., played by Frank Grillo, participated in the creation or financing of the armor.

In Man of TomorrowLex Luthor will use this cutting-edge technology to face, alongside David Corenswet’s Superman, a common threat: Brainiac, played by Lars Eidinger. A major dynamic change after the first film, where Luthor preferred to send his clone Ultraman into battle.

The character will nevertheless begin the story behind bars, before donning this new armor. Release scheduled in French theaters on July 7, 2027.
