Les Misérables: Vincent Lindon and Tahar Rahim face off in the first trailer
A new film adaptation of Victor Hugo’s masterpiece which promises to be spectacular.

After the immense success of Count of Monte Cristo and Three Musketeers in recent years, another monument of French literature has been given a spectacular adaptation. StudioCanal has just revealed the first trailer for Miserableversion 2026, which promises an ambitious rereading of Victor Hugo’s masterpiece, supported by a prestigious casting, sumptuous sets and nervous staging.
These first images notably highlight the face-to-face between Jean Valjean and Javert, at the heart of the story.
“Released after 19 years in prison for stealing a loaf of bread, Jean Valjean decides to change his life and do good around him. Under a false identity, he becomes over time a notable respected by all. Coming to the aid of Fantine, a dying worker, he promises to save his daughter, Cosette, from the clutches of the cruel Thénardiers. But his past catches up with him: Inspector Javert, an implacable police officer with an equally tormented past, the relentlessly hunts him down to send him back to prison. In a Paris in the midst of revolution, Valjean must fight to protect Cosette and complete his redemption, between sacrifices and the quest for justice.“, details the synopsis.
As director, Fred Cavayé reunites with Vincent Lindon, whom he had already directed in the thriller For her in 2008.
Opposite him, Tahar Rahim will play the inflexible Javert. The rest of the cast brings together Noémie Merlant in the role of Fantine, while Camille Cottin and Benjamin Lavernhe will be the Thénardiers .
Vassili Schneider, Megan Northam, Marie Colomb and Louis Peres complete the cast.
Produced by ESKWAD (Richard Grandpierre) and Curiosa Films (Olivier Delbosc), Les Miserables will be released in French theaters on October 14, 2026.
