Terminator 2 returns to cinemas for its 35th anniversary
James Cameron’s masterpiece is returning to the big screen. The Last Judgment will once again be screened in theaters around the world and in France, in a restored 4K version.
He said: “I’ll be back!“He hadn’t lied.
Thirty-five years after revolutionizing action and science fiction cinema, Terminator 2: Judgment Day will make its comeback in theaters.
To mark its anniversary, StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures will organize a worldwide re-release of James Cameron’s film, available in 4K, RealD 3D and premium formats. In the United States, the feature film will be screened from August 28 to September 2, 2026, around the famous “Judgment Day”, set for August 29 in the film universe. In France, this release is scheduled for September 2, 2026.
Released in 1991, Terminator 2 is considered one of the most influential films in cinema history. Worn by Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong and Robert Patrick, it won four Oscars, notably for its revolutionary visual effects. James Cameron is delighted with this return to the big screen:
“T2 was designed for cinemas and our 3D version, prepared with the greatest care, is undoubtedly the best way to see the film. I think that after 35 years, we can afford the spoilers: the good guys win against artificial superintelligence! And maybe that’s a message of hope we all need this summer.”
Same enthusiasm from Anna Marsh, general director of StudioCanal: “We are extremely proud to celebrate the 35th anniversary of this masterpiece alongside Fathom Entertainment and Rialto Pictures. Restoring and rediscovering great cinema classics is at the heart of our strategy, and we look forward to seeing audiences celebrate ‘Judgment Day’ in theaters around the world.“
