Laurent Lafitte launches filming of his 2nd film, with Gilles Lellouche

Five years after The Origin of the World, Laurent Lafitte goes back behind the camera to adapt Le Voyant d’Étampes, the novel by Abel Quentin.

After the unclassifiable comedy The Origin of the Worldreleased in 2021, Laurent Lafitte is tackling his second feature film as a director. Titled Wake Me Upthe film is adapted from the novel The Seer of Étampes by Abel Quentin, published in 2021.

For the occasion, the actor was awarded his first César for best actor for The richest woman in the worldthis year, will be headlining against Gilles Lellouche, almost ten years after the end of the saga The Little Handkerchiefs by Guillaume Canet. The casting will also bring together young Galatea Bellugi and D’johé Kouadio, as well as Chiara Mastroianni, Laurent Stocker and Pierre Arditi.

Filming has just started in Île-de-France and will continue with a few days in Normandy, until October 10. Laurent Lafitte wrote the screenplay with François Favrat, who had directed Lafitte in Boomerang in 2014.

The story follows Jean Roscoff, a passionate literature professor. “He is also a committed man who has always campaigned against racism and inequalities of all kinds. How is it possible that his daughter’s new partner criticizes him for being a dominant white man who understands nothing about the causes of minorities? The controversy triggered by the release of his book on the black poet Robert Willow seems to confirm it: Jean Roscoff no longer understands anything about the world around him…“, details the synopsis.
