Film of the week: If you think well by Géraldine Nakache
Her fourth feature film as a director marks a turning point for Géraldine Nakache. A remarkably mastered turn from comedy to drama. It depicts a love story, whose luminous joy of the first days will quickly give way to a relationship under influence. The one that Jacques (Niels Schneider) exercises on Gil (Monia Chokri). In the dialogues as in the heavy silences, in what she shows as in what she chooses to leave off-screen, Géraldine Nakache finds the right tone and the right distance to describe this spider’s web which weaves itself around Gil and ends up suffocating him. We come out KO standing.
The film in streaming: Guru by Yann Gozlan
With Gourou, Yann Gozlan reunites with Pierre Niney after An Ideal Man and Black Box. And tells the story of the descent into hell of an ultra-charismatic personal development coach who seemed like nothing could stop him. A film noir, in the moral sense of the term: the story of an unmasked impostor, that of a spiral where the more the character speaks, the more the frame isolates and imprisons him. A paranoid thriller carried by a melting Niney for his first steps as co-producer in the cinema.
