Cannes 2026- Emmanuel Marre: “I wanted to show how political violence is based on intimate neuroses”

French box office: Our salvation starts well, Digger rows

The French film about the collaboration with Swann Arlaud attracts more than 250,000 spectators for its first week. Tom Cruise and Digger are far away.

It’s not much better in France than in North America for Tom Cruise.

After its catastrophic opening last weekend in the USA (8 million dollars in revenue), Digger had a very average launch here: for its first week in theaters, Iñárritu’s film only ranked 5th at the French box office, with 165,000 spectators on 500 screens (including previews). This is much worse, obviously, than the scores of the big franchise machines usually worn by the Hollywood star: Mission: Impossible 8 attracted 860,000 fans in its first week last year (2.5 million at the end of the day), while Top Gun 2 was already at 1.5 million at the same stage in 2022 (6.6 million at the end of French career). Even Barry Sealhis last independent feature film, got off to a better start in 2017 with more than 270,000 curious people in the first week (660,000 eventually).

Digger really doesn’t attract the crowds and it’s Brad Pitt who takes the chestnuts from this fire which doesn’t take off: Heart of the Beast continues to top the French box office with 370,000 additional admissions, approaching 900,000 spectators in two weeks. This is far superior to David Ayer’s previous collaboration with Brad Pitt, since Furyreleased in 2014, had at this stage around 500,000 admissions (800,000 at the end of its career).

Excellent start also for Our salvation. Emmanuel Marre’s historic film on collaboration in the Vichy regime attracted more than 250,000 spectators in 350 theaters (including previews). A very good launch which allows it to do better than the other Hollywood novelty of the week: Verity.

The thriller adapted from Colleen Hoover’s best-seller has already sold 230,000 tickets in France (including previews). It’s much better than Reminders of Himanother adaptation by the writer, which began with 110,000 admissions in France at the start of the year (250,000 at the end).

In the rest of the ranking, resident Evil falls from the podium after three weeks. Zach Cregger’s horror film resisted despite everything with 185,000 admissions (-26% attendance) and passed 800,000 fans at the national box office.

Madder by Jeanne Herry also goes the distance and records more than 150,000 additional admissions in 400 theaters (-20%), close to I will always see your facesthe director’s previous film released in 2023. Madder was seen by 360,000 spectators at this point.

Finally, good launch for Kraken. The little French horror film sold 100,000 tickets for its first week, in a combination barely exceeding 100 theaters.
