Widow’s Bay: season 2 will not be released before 2028

Matthew Rhys confirms that the second season of the series will not begin filming until next April.

We’re not going back to Widow’s Bay any time soon.

After the success of its first season, the Apple horror comedy will not return immediately. Matthew Rhys has just confirmed that filming for season 2 will not begin before April 2027, which pushes its broadcast to 2028.

Interviewed by The Direct, the actor revealed:

“Ah, unfortunately season 2 won’t happen… until 2028, because we won’t start filming until April of next year.”

The one who received two Emmy Awards for Best Actor last month (the other for The Beast in Me on Netflix) also clarified that the writers had just resumed work on the sequel to Widow’s Bay. A delay which may seem particularly long for spectators, but which Matthew Rhys attributes in particular to the functioning of streaming platforms.

The actor also recognizes that these long breaks between two seasons can frustrate the public. But the platforms take the time to evaluate the performance of a series before giving the green light to the sequel, which mechanically postpones the launch of production.
