THE EVENT
THE CORSET ★★★★☆
By Louis Clichy
The essentials
Moving from Pixar to Beauce, Louis Clichy swaps 3D for watercolor and signs the French animated film of the year. A teenage and peasant chronicle where he takes us from laughter to tears without ever forcing the point.
In Beauce at the end of the 80s. Christophe is 11 years old and has a problem: he leans, tips and falls. He must therefore wear a metal corset, day and night. Louis Clichy could have told the story of a martyrdom. It’s the opposite: in its guise, the device becomes armor, a shaky superpower, an offbeat way of looking at the world that pushes the kid towards life. Because The Corset is first of all a beautiful coming of age story. But the real subject (the one that strikes) is elsewhere. This film also tells the story of a father-son relationship who love each other without being able to tell each other.
