The filming of Miami Vice ’85 has just started and, after the first official photos revealed by Focus Features, new photos taken around the set allow us to discover Austin Butler in the skin of Sonny Crockett.
White suit, blue shirt, sunglasses, carefully styled hair and a few days’ stubble: the actor uses all the codes of the character made famous by Don Johnson in the original series. Right down to the rings, gold watch and shoes, the look is true to that of Miami’s coolest undercover cop. And Butler looks perfectly comfortable in this costume.
Alongside Butler, Michael B. Jordan will play Ricardo Tubbs. Two characters made famous by Philip Michael Thomas and Don Johnson in the original series, Two Cops in Miamibroadcast from 1984 to 1989. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, to whom we owe Top Gun: Maverick And F1this new Miami Vice intends to rediscover the glamor and corruption of Miami in the mid-1980s. The film will be inspired in particular by the pilot and the first season of the series, which had a profound impact on popular culture, from fashion to the staging of detective series.
The cast also includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo, Andrew Schulz, Edi Gathegi, Walton Goggins, André Holland and Michael Irby.
The screenplay is by Dan Gilroy, based on characters created by Anthony Yerkovich for the television series. Eric Warren Singer had written a previous version of the script.
