A date for Little House on the Prairie Netflix version
Laura and Charles are back this summer on the number 1 streaming platform!
The new Little House on the Prairie finally has a date! 43 years after the final episode, the legendary series which features Laura Ingalls and her family is getting a makeover in a new version which will be available on July 9 on Netflix, Variety announces.
Initially these are novels, those by Laura Ingalls Wilder which recount her childhood in the American Midwest at the end of the 19th century. Published in the 1930s and 1940s, a ninth posthumous edition was published in 1971. To date, more than 73 million copies have been sold.
A true success, the 205-episode American franchise was broadcast for the first time in 1974 on NBC. Little House on the Prairie narrates the adventures of the Ingalls, a 19th century farming family who took root in Minnesota. Laura Ingalls, the youngest, is the main character – from her legendary falling out with Nellie Oleson, the spoiled little girl of the village, to the crushing economic difficulties that her family encounters. The series follows his trajectory from childhood to adulthood.
This reboot created by screenwriter and producer Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for her work on The Maid, The Boys and Archive 81, has already been renewed for a second season. According to the official synopsis, this version 2.0 “part hopeful family drama, part epic survival tale and part story of the American West, this new adaptation of the iconic semi-autobiographical books (…) by Laura Ingalls Wilder offers a kaleidoscopic vision of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the frontier.”
The entire team at the streaming giant is very enthusiastic about this renewal: “We are delighted to renew this magnificent adaptation of “Little House on the Prairie” for a second season before its debut on Netflix,” said Jinny Howe, head of scripted series at Netflix in the United States and Canada.
On the casting side we will find Alice Halsey in the role of Laura Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes in that of Mary, the big sister, Luke Bracey will blend into the skin of the patriarch Charles Ingalls and Crosby Fitzgerald will play the mother, Caroline Ingalls.
Little House on the Prairie has been nominated 44 times and won 17 awards. A major challenge for the entire team of the number 1 streaming platform which is taking over from the 80s event series which marked the history of television…
The key players in the original saga also reacted to the announcement of this reboot. American actress Alison Arngrim aka Nellie Oleson did not seem to object: “There are two types of fans. Some are overexcited and consider this reboot a blessing, while others are fiercely opposed to any reinterpretation, believing that the series was perfect and that it should not be touched.”
For his part, Almanzo’s interpreter seemed a little more skeptical, although encouraging: “It will never be what Michael did. He was a unique creator with an exceptional talent for capturing the emotion of the audience. The new creative team could also have a form of magic, but it will be a different magic.”
