A film about the last days of Samuel Paty was filmed in secret: trailer

Abandonment, directed by Vincent Garenq, will see Antoine Reinartz play the murdered History-Geography professor.

The day after the verdict in the appeal trial of the assassination of Samuel Paty, UGC reveals that a film on the History-Geography professor, murdered as he left his college, was filmed in the greatest secrecy, in the summer of 2025.

This film will be called Abandonment. And Antoine Reinartz (who played one of the Bataclan survivors in Living people) will play Samuel Paty. Emmanuelle Bercot will also be in the casting.

Produced by Outside Films and Les Films du Kiosque, Abandonment will be distributed by UGC: “On October 16, 2020, Samuel Paty, In light of the investigations and trials, this film looks back on his last eleven days, and the spiral that led to his tragic death” details the distributor who specifies in its press release: “We have chosen not to communicate to give priority to justice and the appeal trial. The verdict having been rendered, we hope that this film will take over, so that the story of Samuel Paty does not fall into oblivion.”

Director Vincent Garenq (The Lie, The Investigation) directed the film, for which he co-wrote the screenplay with Alexis Kebbas and the collaboration of Mickaëlle Paty (Samuel’s sister). It will be freely inspired by the book by Stéphane Simon, The Last Days of Samuel Patypublished by Plon in 2023.

Abandonment will soon be released in cinemas. No release date yet.
