A new Ghostbusters film is being prepared at Sony

This new opus could take a very Christmas turn, but the project has nothing official yet.

The ghost hunters may soon bring out their traps.

According to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, Sony Pictures is currently developing a new film Ghostbustersprovisionally titled Ghostbusters: Nightmare on 34th Street.

For now, details are particularly scant. Josh Miller is said to be writing the screenplay. He already knows mainstream franchises well since he worked on the films Sonicbut also on Violent Nightthe action comedy led by David Harbor in which a particularly violent Santa Claus comes to save his family.

A choice that could make sense given the title of this new Ghostbusters. Nightmare on 34th Street in fact mixes a reference to The Claws of the Night and the Christmas classic The Miracle on 34th Street. Enough to suggest that ghosts could come to haunt the end of year celebrations…

For the moment, it is impossible to know if Mckenna Grace, Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon will reprise their roles, they who have been carrying the new saga since 2016. No details concerning the story have leaked.

And above all, the project has not yet received the green light from Sony. It therefore has no confirmed casting, no filming date, no release date.

It must be said that the last film in the saga did not really break the house. Released in 2024, Ghostbusters: The Ice Threat had grossed around 200 million dollars worldwide, for a budget estimated at 100 million. A very relative success for a franchise of this scale.

While waiting for a possible return to the cinema, the ghost hunters will soon be back on the small screen. The animated series Ghostbusters: Night Shiftproduced by Sony Pictures Animation. The story takes place in New York in 1994, five years after the events of Ghostbusters II. It is scheduled for 2027 on Netflix.
