Already 1.8 million entries in France for Super Mario Galaxy
The Nintendo film has the best first week of the year here. But Zendaya and her Drama with Robert Pattinson have nothing to be ashamed of.
Stronger than the Marsupilami and the Fifi gang!
Mario, Luigi and Yoshi have the best start to the year 2026 at the French box office: 1.8 million admissions in France for Super Mario Galaxy ! It’s a hit for the Nintendo film, produced by Illumination. Distributed in 779 cinemas, the cartoon directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic did better than the French comedy by Philippe Lacheau, which until then held the record for the year with 1.4 million spectators in 673 theaters (at the end of its first week).
This is a score equivalent to that of Super Mario Bros., the moviewhich attracted 1.88 million curious people in 738 theaters in 2023 (more than 7 million on arrival).
As expected, Super Mario Galaxy will be one of the biggest successes of the year in France and the competition is already in decline. Like Last chance projectSF blockbuster played by Ryan Gosling, which occupied first place in the ranking for two weeks and which went down three steps. A drop in attendance of almost 40%, which limits 180,000 new spectators in 620 cinemas in France in the third week. The blockbuster is close to the 900,000 admissions mark.
Same causes and consequences for Rays and shadows : only 130,000 additional curious people in 700 rooms across France. The drop in attendance is marked but the 3h19 feature film has nearly 650,000 admissions after three weeks. Already a success.
It must be said that the other new features got off to a good start, in the wake of Mario: The Dramaworn by the couple Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, already has almost 300,000 tickets on the clock. A good launch for this indie film produced by A24 and distributed in less than 300 theaters.
Likewise, Alexandra Lamy and her trip to Compostela have managed to find a place in the top. On the French box office podium, Yann Samuell’s film already has almost 370,000 spectators (boosted by numerous previews).
