Backrooms explained: director Kane Parsons deciphers the phenomenon

Backrooms will be released in a long version with 15 new minutes

It’s one of the summer phenomena. But after a great start, Backrooms begins to run out of steam. A24 is therefore trying to relaunch the machine with a new enriched version.

The buzz Backrooms begins to dissipate. So A24 tries to revive it.

Produced for only $10 million, Backrooms has already raked in more than $330 million at the worldwide box office, becoming the biggest hit in A24 history and one of the highest-grossing films of the year.

But the phenomenon is starting to slow down. It was even doubled at the worldwide box office by Obsessionanother horror sensation created by 26-year-old YouTuber Curry Barker. Produced for only $750,000, the film has already grossed more than $370 million.

To try to restart Backrooms To mark the July 4 weekend (a public holiday in the USA), A24 will re-release the film in American theaters with 15 minutes of bonus material. Baptized Backrooms: Everything Must Go Edition (“Everything must disappear” in French, a nod to furniture store sales), this new version will notably offer a new post-credits sequence, exclusively visible in the cinema.

Directed by Kane Parsons, only 20 years old, the film will run to 2:06. This long version will be released in American theaters on July 3. We do not yet know if this new version will be visible in France.
