Bon Jovi will also be entitled to his biopic at the cinema
Universal will produce a new musical biopic in Hollywood.
After Freddie Mercury, Elvis Presley and Bob Marley, it’s Jon Bon Jovi’s turn to hit the big screen.
The Universal Pictures studio has just won a bidding war to produce a film dedicated to the famous American rock group.
The feature film will tell the story of the band behind hits like Livin’ on a Prayer, Always Or It’s My Life. The screenplay is entrusted to Cody Brotter, author of the crypto thriller Killing Satoshi. For the moment, no director is attached to the project and no actor has yet been chosen to play the members of the group.
Founded in 1983, Bon Jovi counts among its historical members the singer Jon Bon Jovi, the keyboardist David Bryan and the drummer Tico Torres, still in the group today. Guitarist Richie Sambora left the band in 2013, while bassist Alec John Such left in 1994 before passing away in 2022.
It also remains to be seen which period of their career will be told on screen. The film could focus on a key moment in their history, in the manner of Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowherewhich focused on the creation of a particular album, or embrace a broader fresco as had Rocketman around Elton John.
In any case, this project confirms the strong trend of musical biopics in Hollywood. Universal will be released this year Michaeldedicated to Michael Jackson (in April) while Sam Mendes is currently developing four interconnected Beatles films for Sony.
