Call of Duty movie will take place in the Modern Warfare universe

Paramount and Activision have confirmed that the film adaptation of the hit war game will take place in the Modern Warfare universe.

Fans of Call of Duty have been waiting for this announcement for years: the first film from the famous franchise will take place in the universe of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

The information was revealed by director and co-writer Peter Berg during the “Call of Duty in Culture” panel held this weekend at Fanatics Fest in New York. The filmmaker confirmed that the adaptation produced by Paramount Pictures and Activision will be a direct continuation of the Modern Warfare games.

This saga follows Captain John Price and his Task Force 141 unit in their fight against terrorist Vladimir Makarov. The next game, Modern Warfare 4expected this fall, will notably feature a conflict between North Korea and South Korea, suggesting that the film could explore this new geopolitical escalation.

The feature film’s screenplay is written by Taylor Sheridan, creator of Yellowstone and other Landmanalongside Peter Berg. He will bring his experience in military stories and contemporary thrillers to a particularly ambitious project.

The movie Call of Duty; produced in collaboration with Activision, will mark the 25th anniversary of the franchise, launched in 2003 and sold more than 500 million copies worldwide. Since its beginnings centered on World War II, the series has explored numerous conflicts, from Vietnam to modern wars to futuristic scenarios.

Paramount Pictures has set the film’s release date for June 30, 2028. The official title and cast have not yet been revealed.
