Carrie: the first images of the remake by Mike Flanagan
Prime Video has revealed a preview of its new adaptation of the Stephen King classic. At the helm of this eight-episode mini-series, Mike Flanagan promises a contemporary rereading.
Nearly fifty years after Brian De Palma’s classic, the stainless Carrie is preparing to return in a new form.
Prime Video has just revealed the first preview of the series developed by Mike Flanagan, the master of horror behind The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass and The Fall of the House of Usher.
Far from a simple remake, this new version is presented as a reinvention of the novel published by Stephen King in 1974.
The story will always follow Carrie White, an outcast teenager “who has spent her entire life reclusive within the walls of her house, under the control of her fiercely protective mother Margaret. After the sudden and premature death of her father, she is propelled into the merciless world of public high school. Faced with a case of harassment that has gone viral, the constant pressure and the trivialized cruelty of social networks, Carrie simultaneously sees the awakening of strange telekinetic powers which grow at the same time than her.”

The young Summer Howell (Hunter Hunter, Time Cut) succeeds Sissy Spacek, Angela Bettis and Chloë Grace Moretz in the role of Carrie, while Samantha Sloyan, faithful collaborator of Mike Flanagan, will play his mother Margaret White. The cast also includes Siena Agudong, Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Alison Thornton and Joel Oulette.
Written, produced and supervised by Mike Flanagan, who also directs four of the eight episodes, the series also benefits from the involvement of Stephen King, present as executive producer. A collaboration which is not by chance: the filmmaker has already successfully adapted several of the writer’s works, including Jessie, Doctor Sleep and, more recently, The Life of Chuck.

Published in 1974, Carrie is Stephen King’s very first novel.
Its film adaptation by Brian De Palma in 1976 quickly became an absolute classic of horror cinema. Directed by Sissy Spacek, the film grossed more than $30 million worldwide for a budget of less than $2 million, before establishing itself as one of the most influential works of the genre.
With this new version, Mike Flanagan will try to bring the tragedy of Carrie White into the age of social networks.
