Colman Domingo pays Elon Musk and his “historically faithful” Odyssey

The actor mocked the billionaire’s AI-generated film project, which was supposed to offer a “historical” version of The Odyssey.

Elon Musk’s crusade against The Odyssey by Christopher Nolan never ceases to dismay.

Last night, it was Colman Domingo who launched a scathing response to the billionaire, during Jimmy Kimmel’s show which he is presenting this week. The Oscar-nominated actor dedicated part of his opening monologue to the boss of X and xAI. He first mocked Musk’s promise, who announced that he wanted to produce an adaptation of The Odyssey entirely generated by his artificial intelligence Grok, which he presents as “historically faithful and respectful of the work of Homer”.

Domingo immediately joked about this ambition by denouncing the racism inherent in this type of statement:

“When he says ‘historically accurate’, he mainly means ‘whiter than white!’“

A dig aimed at Musk’s repeated criticisms of the casting deemed too diverse in Nolan’s film. The actor then delivered the blow with a remark that sparked laughter from the audience:

“I don’t want to go into technical details, but you can’t make a historically accurate version of something that’s completely made up.“

The billionaire recently shared a three-minute extract, generated by a Grok user, to illustrate his vision of The Odyssey. An initiative which sparked much ridicule in the cinema industry.

Earlier in the week, the director of Doctor StrangeScott Derrickson, also attacked Elon Musk on X, writing: “It is obvious that Elon Musk knows nothing about cinema and that he stopped reading at twenty.“ Enough to further fuel the skirmish between Hollywood and the boss of xAI.
