Disney is bringing back Tinker Bell for a live-action series
The Disney Plus platform should relaunch Peter Pan’s best friend.
Disney is putting a piece back into the live-action adaptation machine. This time, with Peter Pan. But not to remake Hook or Pan.
The Disney+ platform is currently developing Tink, a new series centered on the famous Tinker Bell, aka Tinkerbell in French, a character from the world of Peter Pan. The project has been considered in various forms for over a decade, but is now reportedly considered a priority for the platform.
To write and produce the series, Disney called on Liz Heldens and Bridget Carpenter, two screenwriters who had already worked together on Friday Night Lights. No official synopsis has yet been revealed.
The Tink project actually has a long history in the studio drawers. As early as 2010, Disney had imagined a live-action romantic comedy with Elizabeth Banks attached to the lead role, while Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and McG were announced for production. Five years later, another version was considered, this time with Reese Witherspoon in the skin of the famous fairy. Here again the project ended up in a drawer.
More recently, the character reappeared on screen in the film Peter Pan & Wendy, released in 2023, where Yara Shahidi played Tinker Bell. We will recall that she has been played live on screen many times in recent decades, by Julia Roberts of course (in Hook), by the Frenchwoman Ludivine Sagnier (in the 2004 film Peter Pan) or even by Rose McIver (in the series Once Upon a Time).
The new series is being developed at 20th Television for Disney+.
No release date has been announced yet. But one thing is certain: at Disney, the fairy dust has obviously never stopped flying.
