Elijah Wood joins season 3 of Paradise… in space?!

Showrunner Dan Fogelman announces the arrival of Elijah Wood and Melissa Benoist to the cast and gives a funny tease along the way…

After locking us in a bunker under a mountain, Paradise will visibly gain height and leave… into space.

The creator of the series, Dan Fogelman, teased clues about season 3 with a photo published on Instagram, revealing in passing the arrival of Elijah Wood and Melissa Benoist in the cast of the post-apocalyptic thriller broadcast on Disney +.

The image taken on set appears to show some sort of space station. And inside, the Lord of the Rings star and the actress from the Supergirl series are dressed as American astronauts…

“Season 3. You have no idea where this show is going to go,” Fogelman wrote in the caption, obviously very happy to cover his tracks.

In comments, actress Krys Marshall, who plays Robinson in the series, had fun: “Dan is really incapable of keeping a secret!”

Until now, Paradise has primarily taken place in a massive underground bunker built to protect humanity after a global climate catastrophe called “The Day.” Season 2 alternated between the bunker and the surface, while Xavier Collins, played by Sterling K. Brown, went in search of his wife. But this new image suggests that the series could now leave Earth… or at least explore a space-related plot.

Several theories are already circulating: Elijah Wood and Melissa Benoist could play astronauts already in orbit at the time of “The Day”, observing the collapse of the planet from space. Others imagine a huge leap into the future showing a rebuilt civilization, with a new space program. However, one thing seems certain: season 3 will further tighten its disaster scenario.

It must be said that in the previous season, a scene saw Dr. Louge explaining that “The Day” was only the beginning of the apocalypse. After a short stabilization of the climate, the trapped greenhouse gases would eventually cause an uncontrollable heat rise. “The air will become denser, the oceans will evaporate and the pressure will crush everything that remains standing. Just like on Venus,” he warned. Sterling K. Brown has also confirmed that season 3 will introduce a major new climate threat.

So is going into space the only way out for the survivors of the Paradise apocalypse?

Answer in season 3, currently filming, and which will be broadcast next year on Disney+.
