Erin Moriarty opens up about her illness while filming The Boys

The actress reveals that she filmed one of the key episodes of the final season, in full physical decline, even before her diagnosis was made.

Behind the superpowers and the biblical clashes of The Boys, a much harsher reality was playing out for Erin Moriarty. The Annie / Starlight interpreter confided that she went through one of the most trying moments of her career during the filming of season 5, in the middle of her fight against a still undiagnosed illness.

The episode in question, King of Hell (episode 4), is nevertheless one of the most important of the season. But for the actress, it is especially associated with a period of great fragility. “Shortly after this episode, I began to lose the ability to walk,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “The numbness in my feet was causing many falls. The day before filming my scene, I fell and seriously damaged my knee.”

A testimony without filter to alert:

“This is not a post to make people feel sorry for me. It’s mainly to say: fuck autoimmune diseases. And fuck the ignorance around it.”

Diagnosed last year with Graves’ disease, an autoimmune condition that affects the thyroid, Erin Moriarty explains that she has long minimized her symptoms, attributing them to stress and fatigue. An error that she shares today to alert:

“If I hadn’t blamed it all on stress, I might have caught it sooner.”

Since then, the actress has insisted on a simple and essential message. You have to listen to your body. “Don’t ‘grit your teeth’ thinking this will pass. You deserve to be okay.”

Season 5 of The Boys is currently underway on Prime Video.
