From: the shock ending of season 4 explained by the creators

The finale, available on Paramount+, completely shakes up the series before its final season.

While waiting to find out how everything will end in its fifth and final season, ordered in April 2026, From has just put the last episode of its season 4 online on Paramount+ in France (also available via myCANAL). And the wait until next year looks endless…

Please note, the rest of this article reveals the main events of the season 4 finale.

The tenth episode ends with the death of two major characters: Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) and Elgin (Nathan D. Simmons). A radical choice justified by creator John Griffin and showrunner Jeff Pinkner, during an interview with Collider.

In the finale, Marielle is brutally killed by the creature Smiley after an earthquake causes the talisman protecting the clinic to fall. At the same time, Elgin is murdered by the Man in Yellow after refusing to renounce his faith. For John Griffin, Marielle’s death was not thought of as a simple script shock. It is above all intended to upset Kristi (Chloe Van Landschoot), whose relationship with Marielle had finally been rebuilt:

“They might argue from time to time, but their relationship was reunited. You could believe that this reunion had to have some meaning. And yet, sometimes, life snatches someone away from you when you least expect it. That’s what Kristi must now face…”

According to the creator, this drama will profoundly transform the character in season 5.

“Kristi is the one who fixes others. Now the question becomes: what happens when the one who fixes broken people can no longer repair herself?”

Elgin’s disappearance follows a simpler logic, explains Jeff Pinkner:

“We needed the arrival of the big bad to have real consequences. Nathan is an exceptional actor and a wonderful addition to the cast, but living in Fromville is dangerous…and Sophia is dangerous.”

The two creators thus promise that these deaths will not be gratuitous. They will serve as a starting point for the final season of From, which will finally resolve the many mysteries of the cursed city and offer a conclusion to this series which has become one of the greatest horror successes of recent years.
