After making Jack O’Connell shine in the saga 28 years laterdirector Danny Boyle reunites with the young British actor in his new film, Inkdedicated to media mogul Rupert Murdoch, who will make his world debut at the opening of the 83rd Venice Film Festival, which will be held from September 2 to 12. The feature film will be presented in official competition.
Written by British playwright James Graham (Dear England, Sherwood, Brexit), this biopic looks at the takeover and transformation of the British newspaper The Sun by Rupert Murdoch at the end of the 1960s. Jack O’Connell plays Larry Lamb, the editor-in-chief who participated in the editorial revolution of the tabloid, while Guy Pearce lends his features to Murdoch and Claire Foy to Jules Davies.
Danny Boyle explains that he was immediately attracted to James Graham’s script, which he describes as a project that he felt “obligated and privileged to achieve”. The filmmaker recalls that 1969 was the year when man walked on the Moon, but also the year when Murdoch and Lamb launched a newspaper that would profoundly transform the media landscape. “Long before Fox News, fake news and social networks, these two men created a new tabloid which, against all odds, became the best-selling newspaper in the world…”
