Another important prize for One Battle After Another in the Oscar race

Paul Thomas Anderson’s film is a hit, while a small French animated film creates a surprise…

On the Oscar Highway.

The phenomenon One battle after another didn’t slow down and once again dominated a night of trophies.

Sunday evening, Paul Thomas Anderson’s free adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel (Vineland) reigned over the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards winning three major trophies: best film, best direction and best supporting role for Teyana Taylor.

One battle after another is part of the lineage of LAFCA darlings who became triumphant at the Oscars: Minesweepers (2009), Spotlight (2015), Moonlight (2016), Parasite (2019) or even Anora last year. The association, renowned for its adventurous tastes, nevertheless often remains aligned with future Oscar winners.

Good news for French film Amélie and the Metaphysics of Tubes by Mailys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han, who won the prize for best animated film at this 51st edition of the LAFCA Awards – ahead of the favorite of KPop Demon Hunters from Netflix – and who can now legitimately consider an Oscar nomination…
