Why Andrew Garfield will not be in the continuation of The Social Network

15 years later The Social Networkthe continuation arrives … but without Andrew Garfield.

The American actor will not resume his role as Eduardo Saverin, co-founder of Facebook, in The Social Reckoningthe new film by Aaron Sorkin.

Questioned by Indiewire at the New York Film Festival, Garfield was clear:

“No, no, I won’t be …”, Before adding to the tone of humor: “Eduardo is in Singapore having a good time.”

Andrew Garfield explains in substance that Saverin has no longer really played in the future of Facebook after the creation of the social network with Mark Zuckerberg. In 2009, he gave up his American citizenship to settle in Singapore. Despite speculation on tax reasons, SAVERIN has always insisted: this choice “Based only on my interest in working and living” in the country.

That said, Andrew Garfield is curious to see the new film, even if it does not participate: “Oh yes”confirms the actor.

Sorkin’s film, entitled The Social Reckoningwill be released on October 9, 2026. He gathered Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White, Bill Burr and Jeremy Strong, who succeeds Jesse Eisenberg to play Zuckerberg.

Written and directed by Sorkin, The Social Reckoning presents itself as a counterpart of The Social Networktwo decades after the creation of the platform. The film will tell the true story of Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, who joined forces with Jeff Horwitz (White), journalist at the Wall Street Journal, for a dangerous investigation which ends up revealing the best kept secrets of the social network.
